- Thanks to everyone who has wished me a happy birthday today (like this diary. If any of you want to get me something for my birthday, what I really, really want today is $5-10 (or whatever) to your favorite ActBlue Netroots candidate.
In fact, the I would love to see all candidates in the five-figures. Larry Grant, Gary Trauner, and Tim Walz are almost there. And several other candidates are almost at 1,000 contributions.
- The sordid history of Mickey Mouse. It's a docu-drama, so it's the "real story of what happened".
- Dems should stop whining about GOP efforts to politicize national security, and instead go on the offensive.
- Don't tread on me. Unless you are a Republican, of course.
- The legacy of Disney/ABC's misstep on that wretched 9-11 movie:
Still, we have to face the fact that Disney/ABC decided that they are now a right-wing propaganda outlet. That's fine. It's also fine to let our representatives and candidates know that Disney is no longer competent as a trustee of the public airwaves, that the broadcast flag is a terrible idea, that copyright extremism is a problem, that allowing media consolidation is no longer appropriate, and that Disney needs to allow reality show writers to become part of the writers' guild and cut writers in on internet and DVD royalties. Those are all fine things to do.
And then there's all the lawsuits from the people and companies (like American Airlines) libeled by the movie.
- Zogby has new interactive polling numbers out. I don't believe them for a second. Zogby's interactive numbers were atrocious in 2004, and there's nothing to indicate that they will be any better this time around. I know Democratic campaigns with good numbers will cite the poll approvingly (especially with the Wall Street Journal's imprimatur). But whatever value they may have as propaganda, don't take them otherwise seriously.
- So Couric and her CBS News fell to third place from the top slot in four days. A lot of it may have had to do with featuring Rush Limbaugh calling war opponents unpatriotic.
Really, given the tons of opinion available in other media outlets, why the heck does the NEWS operation at CBS feel the need to inject that in their programming? Why not, you know, just report the news? No wonder entire swaths of the traditional media are dying institutions.
- Here are the voting rules in the RI primary tomorrow. The difficulty of identifying likely voters makes it a tough race to poll. (DemFromCT)
